South African Airways Denies Kenya Air Merger Reports

Following reports in a number of media outlets that a merger was in the works between South African Airways and Kenya Airways, officials with the South African flag carrier have issued a statement saying no such move was imminent. In a New Year’s address, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said the carriers had signed a “strategic partnership agreement” that would be a major step toward plans “to establish a Pan-African Airline” by 2023.

Pre-departure Test Dropped for Travel to England

The requirement that all travelers to England have pre-departure tests has been dropped, according to an announcement from UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The new rules allow fully vaccinated arriving passengers and those under 18, to board flights bound for England without producing a negative PCR test. The new policy goes into effect as of 4:00 AM on Friday, Jan. 7.
