Thailand promotes northeast
Thailand’s northeast provinces will be put in the spotlight this month, with the launch of an event to boost tourism to the region.
Organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) the Amazing I-San Fair 2013 will be held at Bangkok’s Queen Sirikit National Convention Center from 24-27 January 2013, and will feature more than 60 exhibitors, including travel agents, airlines, accommodation providers, and producers of local handicrafts. The travel fair is aimed at increasing tourist traffic from Bangkok to the northeast region, which is known in Thailand as ‘Isan’. The event will also include live cultural performances, showcasing traditional arts such as silk weaving.
“The Isan culture has its own uniqueness. Visiting Isan is another way to gain memorable experiences with enjoyment and recreation,” said TAT governor Suraphon Svetasreni.
In 2011, the Isan region welcomed more than 26 million visitors, 95% of whom where Thai.
