What are you most looking forward to at AIME 2023?

With our event industry thriving and the demand to meet in person greater than ever, I am personally excited to reengage with destinations and venues to discover new offerings and experiences.  AIME is the perfect platform to allow the industry to reengage, learn something new and make new industry connections.

It’s AIME’s 30th Birthday – do you have any favourite memories to share?

My fondest memory of AIME was my first AIME over 10 years ago. It was my first day in a new role, at a new hotel company, working in a new market. Everyone was so welcoming, supportive and generous with their time and knowledge. My first AIME is where I ignited my passion for meetings and events. You can say AIME is the reason why I still am still working in this incredible industry over a decade after my first time at the show.

What’s changed in your time in the industry?

The main change I can seen in the industry is our client’s increased focus on the purpose of their meeting and incentive. Years ago, it was acceptable to get a group together because they can, or to just have fun. Now we can still plan amazing fun experiences however the expectation of both the planner and the delegate is weighted on the purpose of meeting and the outcomes they will personally gain from attending an event.

What do you think our industry will look like in 30 years?

Nothing will ever replace face to face meetings and events. Magic happens when people are together, and these connections and outcomes can not be achieved over a device. In the next 30 years, there will be a stronger focus on meeting responsibility, with a conscious awareness on how an event creates both an environmental and social impact.

Who are your strongest influences in the industry right now?

The SITE Community are personally my strongest influences in the industry. They are a very resilient group of like minded industry professionals who are constantly striving to inspire and reward their clients with unique experiences.

What are your top tips for networking at AIME?

My top tip is to never let an opportunity to connect pass you by. You never know who you will meet at the Welcome Event, in a business session or on the show floor. I have made lifelong industry friendships at AIME who have inspired both my personal and professional development.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing the industry?

The biggest challenge has been watching so many talented people in our industry choose a new career path. The events industry has lost incredible people, who were passionate about creating amazing experiences. Now that our industry is thriving our greatest challenge is re-attracting talent back into our industry to support the continued demand.

If you could meet or chat to one person at AIME who would it be?

I would welcome the opportunity to meet with Robin Mack, the Executive General Manager for Commercial and Business Events at Tourism Australia. Tourism Australia have worked incredibly hard to ensure that Australia remains an inspirational country to travel to for business events. I would love to discuss his view on 2023 and the trends that Tourism Australia are seeing with demand across the country.

What are some of your go-to places when you’re in Melbourne?

If you have worked with me, you know I have three loves (besides my family). I love coffee, chocolate and gin. The best coffee in the world is in Melbourne and I am looking forward to sampling a few new hidden cafes for a long black.

What are your top tips for making the most of your time at AIME?

My top tip to attend the business sessions and all networking opportunities that are presented to you. Make the most of your time with the industry.

What are 2-3 things you would advise someone who is attending AIME for the first time?
  1. Wear comfortable shoes and pace yourself
  2. Ask lots of questions
  3. Enjoy meeting the incredible people who work in our industry
