VERNON HILLS, IL – Today, Gavel International joins organizations across the globe to support the annual Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID, #GMID2022) held on April 7, 2022. GMID, led by the industry advocacy coalition Meetings Mean Business (MMB), showcases the proven value that business meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, trade shows, and exhibitions bring to businesses and the economy. This year’s theme, Meet Safe, will show how safe, productive meetings are uniting colleagues and reminding them of the importance of face-to-face interactions.

Together in all settings, stronger, more united than ever, GMID will demonstrate the unwavering value of the industry with leaders in business, government, and the media, highlighting that the industry’s value has never been more critical – particularly in the United States.

“Face-to-face interactions are good for business and the economy,” said Jim Bozzelli, Managing Partner at Gavel International.  “Since the pandemic we’ve seen that many things can be done remotely, but the economy and human relationships can’t be rebuilt by virtual interactions exclusively.”  Bozzelli’s comment echoes 84% of executives who state they see higher productivity when employees are meeting face-to-face. In-person meetings also provide significant benefits to attendees, including deeper connections to business contacts, fostering better education, and learning opportunities, access to crucial information through informal conversations, improved company morale, job fulfillment, and much more.  In fact, 82% of event planners value in-person events more now than before the pandemic. Professional planners operate in-person meetings, events, and conferences abiding by safety restrictions imposed by the state and venue, ensuring the utmost health considerations are taken to keep attendees safe.  Adds Gavel International’s General Manager, Eloisa Mendez, “These considerations were important before the pandemic.  Health and safety standards have been reinforced over the last two years and will continue long into the future.”

GMID was created in 2016 to raise the profile of the meetings and events industry. As many GMID celebrations went virtual in the last two years, professional meeting planners are eager to welcome the return of in-person events in 2022.

“Since its inception, GMID has galvanized partners globally and empowered advocates to communicate our industry’s ability to support businesses and local communities,” said Michael Massari, Chief Sales Officer at Caesars Entertainment, Inc., and Co-chair of MMB. “This year’s GMID is a testament to the incredibly resilient meetings and events professionals and our dedication to securing much-needed relief and recovery for the industry.”
