Melbourne is where the Magic Happens

Louise Scott is a proud Melbournian and the Director of Experience Melbourne at the City of Melbourne leading a team of approx. 100 involved in all aspects of festivals and events.

As a first-time AIMEbassador, we sat down with Louise to chat about Melbourne, AIME and the world of events. Find out what Louise had to say….

Why did you decide to join the AIMEbassador program?

To support Melbourne and the MCB in particular to attract more business to the City and champion the value of the events industry.

Have you attended previous AIMEs? Tell us about your experiences?

Yes, I attended in 2019 and thought it was a fantastic way to sell all the benefits of the destination and to secure conference business for Australia

What makes AIME such an important event for Melbourne to host?

It allows Melbourne to be showcased to a huge audience of potential buyers who can experience first hand, all it has to offer.  Melbourne is a city of experiences and is best explored in person so hosting the event here makes that possible.

What makes Melbourne a great destination for hosting business events?

Melbourne has a wealth of venues and experiences that are all located close together offering an ideal experience for business events.  With the full range of hospitality offerings from low cost accommodation to high end hotels, there is something for every budget.  Melbourne’s key assets are all within walking distance of the CBD or you can use the free central tram service to get around. It is a city of experiences and offers the business event delegate the perfect mix of business and pleasure

What’s one of the most memorable Melbourne events you have attended and what made it so memorable?

The first time I attended the MCG for a major event, the first time I attended the Australian Open and the Australian Grand Prix.  These events put Melbourne on the global map as an exciting event destination capable of hosting major events in the most exciting way.

What are some of your favourite Melbourne venues/spaces/properties to hold an event?

There are many unique and unusual spaces as well as large spaces that can accommodate major events.  The State Library, the Town Hall and other new modern spaces like Centerpiece can offer the event organiser a wealth of choice.

What are your top tips for networking at events like AIME?

Take time to attend the networking activities and try to connect with new people rather than just speaking to those people you already know.

What are you most looking forward to at AIME 2023?

Reconnecting with colleagues old and new and understanding more about current industry trends. Learning about new technology and new ideas for engaging with delegates and reaching conference organisers.

What are some of your favourite go-to places/things to do in Melbourne?

I enjoy exploring the city and finding new places – often guided by my team that run the Melbourne What’s On website and social media.  Hardware Lane and Flinders Lane offer a great selection of restaurants and bars and I love the Journal Café on Flinders Street for a morning coffee.
