Julian Haddon

Regional Director of Sales & Marketing, EMEA at Rosewood Hotel & Resorts

inVOYAGE: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us Julian and it was lovely to see you earlier this year at our Q1 event in Marbella. Now, I know for a number of years, Rosewood Le Guanahani St. Barth underwent some fairly major renovations. Can you tell us a bit more about this? What were the key factors that led to this decision and how does the new identity and design enhance the guest experience?

Julian Haddon: When Le Guanahani opened in 1986 it was one of the first luxury resorts in St. Barth. The recent re-design and reframing came from a deep understanding of the destination, and what the resort represents to the island. For us, it was important to stay ahead of the curve and that’s when we really began to focus our attention on re-creating a “Sense of Place” that reflects the local culture and sensibilities of the island.

From 2017 to November 2021, the property underwent vast improvements and joined the Rosewood Hotels & Resorts collection. It was a wonderful opportunity to merge shared values and thoughtful design which reflect the distinctive history, heritage and style of the French Caribbean. The new design embraces the property’s commitment to sustainability and colours of the island to create a welcoming environment and home-like feel for our guests. It’s very “Joie de Vivre meets Caribbean”.

inVOYAGE: What a wonderful way to put it! Now, the concept of luxury is often associated with unique experiences. How does Rosewood Le Guanahani aim to provide distinct experiences for their guests?

Julian Haddon: Personalisation is essential to creating a unique experience. That’s why, in addition to having a team of experts looking to create magic for our guests, we have a dedicated event manager whose sole purpose is to create unique and unforgettable itineraries for our guests. From first enquiry to final check out, the team are there every step of the way, ensuring every attention to detail is met.

inVOYAGE: That’s great to hear, and certainly an important consideration for our event planners. Can you highlight any specific features or amenities that set Rosewood Le Guanahani apart from other luxury properties when it comes to hosting events and incentive trips?

Julian Haddon: St. Barth is a unique French island in the middle of the Caribbean and therefore quite a niche destination when it comes to events. Many guests may not know the history of St. Barth when they visit, so we’ve done all we can to ensure we’re a true ambassador of the destination and that all guests who visit leave with a real sense of place. Our Rosewood property is set in an 18-acre-private peninsula with direct access to two beaches. We have 3 distinct areas for events and plenty of dining options to create memorable events. When it comes to experiences, we have our Morne Reserve hiking trail which has become something of a favourite among our guests as they embark on a trail to the stunning viewpoint overlooking the peninsula. Wellness is essential, and with the largest spa on the island and a myriad of activities, we ensure guests have all they need to unwind and relax. Finally, our Clefs d’Or concierge are on hand to ensure every stay is special and your key clients leave with a new sense of discovery.

inVOYAGE: Collaboration is key in the event industry. How does Rosewood Le Guanahani work with event planners and organisers to ensure seamless execution and unforgettable experiences?

Julian Haddon: Oh, collaboration is essential! It’s all about understanding the needs of the clientele and working together along the way – not just to meet the basic requirements, but to share ideas and create unique memories. We know at times event planning can be stressful and that’s when our partnership becomes essential. Together we can overcome any challenge and turn a situation into something even greater.

inVOYAGE: As the Sales Director, what insights can you share about the feedback you've received from clients who have hosted events or incentive trips at Rosewood Le Guanahani?

Julian Haddon: We have been welcoming events since the opening of the resort, from celebration to incentive. One thing they all have in common? The unmistakable smile on all the faces of the delegates. Of course, it’s hard not to smile when you’re in St. Barth, but the extra mile our team go to create unique memories for our guests is what makes the difference and allows us to welcome back programs and planners year after year.

inVOYAGE: Finally, Julian what advice would you give to event planners or companies considering Rosewood Le Guanahani for their upcoming luxury events or incentive trips?

Julian Haddon: I would say the key is understanding St. Barth as a destination. It’s such a unique island and there’s really nothing quite like it. From beach time to nature discovery, from culinary experiences to shopping, there’s plenty of opportunities to create an event like no other and an incentive in St. Barth is the perfect venue to host the event of a lifetime with memories created that they won’t find elsewhere.
