MICE visitors are currently sustaining the tourism trade in Brisbane. Queensland Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind said; “[MICE travellers] are always available and at the moment are sustaining the city from a visitors point of view.” After devastating floods earlier in the year, high-yield MICE tourists are propping up the travel industry though the low season.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk told The Brisbane Times that the city’s convention and business events industry is a “vibrant segment of the Brisbane economy”.
“The economic contribution of business events to Brisbane’s economy is significant. In 2009 to 2010 business events attracted 110,111 delegates to the city which delivered AU$188 million (US$195 million) in economic value to Brisbane Australia’s New World City,” Quirk added.
