LA to host International Pow Wow 2012

Los Angeles will welcome US Travel Association’s International Pow Wow next year. Noerth America’s largest travel trade show will run from 21-25 April 2012, and is expected to inject an immediate economic benefit of US$6.5 million into the city, with another estimated US$350 million two to four years following the event, due to the expected increase of international travel business.
“As the host city of Pow Wow 2012, we will have the opportunity to showcase Los Angeles to some of the most influential travel professionals from around the world,” said Mark Liberman, President & CEO of the city’s convention and visitors bureau, LA INC. “Tourism is the number one industry in the city, with international visitors making up about 20 percent of the visitor market, but accounting for nearly 35 percent of visitor spending. Pow Wow gives us the opportunity to grow our international market share.”
International Pow Wow attracts more than 1,500 international and domestic buyers from 70 countries, over 400 international media and travel suppliers and organizations from every region of the United States. With thousands of occupied hotel rooms and the Los Angeles Convention Center booking, Los Angeles’ International POW Wow will have an immediate economic impact in 2012. Millions of dollars in future tourism are expected as a result of the bookings that take place during the five-day gathering. In addition to the marketplace and the hosted evening events, the International tour operators and media participate in dozens of neighborhood tours which showcase the many facets of Los Angeles.
“LA last hosted Pow Wow in 2004 and as a former host city, we know firsthand the major impact Pow Wow will have,” said Liberman. “With the thousands of buyers, suppliers and organizations that represent the travel industry, we have a tremendous opportunity during Pow Wow to showcase all of the outstanding new product our city has to offer and generate future revenue.”
