Hyatt Rolls Out New ESG Website

The platform details the hotel group’s sustainability and diversity achievements and commitments

Hyatt has announced World of Care, a new website detailing the hotel group’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) achievements and commitments.

“By focusing on these impact areas, the new framework is designed to foster collective action across departments, business vendors, and suppliers,” according to a statement from the hotel giant.

Hyatt says it achieved its goal of a 25 percent per square meter reduction of greenhouse gas early across its three regions, set under its 2020 environmental framework. The group is in the process of formulating a 2030 target for its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its hotels worldwide, working with 3Degrees.

The group’s new environmental framework is focused on “climate change and water conservation, waste, and circularity, responsible sourcing, and thriving destinations.”

Hyatt is working toward a 50 percent global reduction per square meter in food waste sent to landfill or to incinerators by 2030 compared to a 2019 baseline. This is in line with the 12.3 target of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The World of Care website details workforce diversity data and includes a commitment to report its diversity data annually including global gender and US racial and ethnic workforce representation across all levels. The hotel company is also tying its incentive planning to diversity, equity and inclusion progress and has linked executive stock compensation via its Performance Share Unit Plan.

Hyatt is also rolling out a new global human trafficking training for its workforce to be vigilant for signs of human trafficking and take swift action. In June, Hyatt hosted its first Wellbeing Week, providing activities “focused on emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing” among its global workforce. In July, Hyatt’s annual Global Month of Service provides volunteer opportunities for employees “to rally and strengthen communities.”

Finally, Hyatt continues to donate to its RiseHY program to support young adults and help them identify their career paths.
