1. Explore Old Settlers Park 

This beautiful park is a local landmark that offers miles of walking and biking trails, playgrounds, and a water park for kids. It even features a full-sized disc golf course and cricket field. For those looking for an evening activity, the city hosts free concerts and other shows at the nearby amphitheater.

2. Enjoy a stroll at Brushy Creek Lake Park

This park offers a nature trail with scenic views of the lake and surrounding countryside. If you have a few dollars to spare, you can also rent a kayak or paddle boat for a fun and affordable way to explore the lake.

If you’re in for a longer walk, consider the Brushy Creek Regional Trail. The trail follows Brushy Creek and spans a portion of northwestern Round Rock, traveling through numerous parks and wildlife areas. 

3. See the original Round Rock

If you’re around Memorial Park near the center of the city, take a slight detour to visit Round Rock. The table-shaped rock is located in the middle of Brushy Creek and originally indicated a point of crossing for settlers. As the namesake for the city of Round Rock, it’s now a popular tourist attraction and is featured in the city’s logo.

As one of the top malls in the region with over 120 stores, the Round Rock Premium Outlets has something for everyone. While the stores themselves may not be free, window-shopping and people-watching are always a fun and free activity. If you’re lucky, you may find some free product samples or sit down and chat with a new friend. 

5. Take a stroll through the Downtowner Gallery

Located in the heart of Round Rock, the Downtowner Gallery contains numerous free exhibits all year long featuring local and regional artists. The gallery is funded by the city of Round Rock and also features a free art supply pantry for artists new and old, including paint and drawing supplies. 

If you’re living in Round Rock, consider donating your own art supplies to the pantry to help another artist thrive. 

6. Check out the Round Rock Public Library

Libraries are great resources for anyone looking for information, a cozy place to read, or a hangout spot with friends. The Round Rock Public Library is no exception; it offers a variety of free programs and events for visitors of all ages, including book clubs, storytimes, workshops, and computer classes. 

If you’re looking for a nearby outdoor area to read your books at, consider Veterans Park, located just over four blocks from the library. 

7. Visit the Round Rock Sports Center

Enjoy free access to an indoor soccer field, basketball courts, a weight room, and a climbing gym. If you’re looking to learn from experts or get your kids active, the sports center offers a variety of programs and classes ranging from fitness, to rock climbing, to sports leagues. The space even hosts premier sporting events open to spectators.

While entry is generally free, some classes, programs, and activities require paid tickets or joining fees.

8. Attend the Round Rock Farmers Market

Hosted by Farmer George, the Round Rock Farmers Market is open every Saturday for everyone to enjoy fresh produce, live music, and a variety of food vendors. Located just behind Ikea at the University Oaks Shopping Center, the market is perfect for families and friends to gather and eat together surrounded by a welcoming community. Food and other goods may not be free, but the atmosphere certainly is.
