Foodies love the San Jose del Cabo’s Fiestas Tradicionales, an annual two-week festival in March honoring the patron saint San Jose. For those willing to go further afield there is the Gastrovino Baja Food & Wine Festival in Todos Santos in April, which highlights the cuisine and wine of Baja California amid art galleries and colorful colonial backdrops. Come back for the margaritas during National Margarita Day, observed on February 22nd each year.

Todos Santos

Film lovers flock to the Los Cabos International Film Festival in November. The festival is a clear runner on a trajectory to becoming one of the most outstanding events in Mexico, bringing in the film world’s top directors, actors, producers and national and international films.

Cabo’s Art Scene is Alive and Well

And let’s not forget music and art. Often everyday celebrations in Los Cabos, these passions are especially in play during February. The Todos Santos Art Festival, now in its third decade, showcases an array of traditional and modern Mexican artworks amid musical arrangements and flowing dance performances. Jazz lovers also get their fill of culture in May during the San José Jazz Festival Weekend at Plaza El Pescador. Of course, it does not take an art festival for San Jose del Cabo to show its true colors. Every Thursday evening between November and June, the galleries around this village open their doors, studios and exhibit spaces for guests to stroll through as they take in the artworks, listen to music, sip wine and explore the adventurous dining to be had at neighborhood restaurants.

Los Cabos for the Holidays and Beyond

Known holidays around Christmas, New Year’s, Halloween and even Valentine’s Day bring big gatherings to Los Cabos where these days are celebrated the Mexican way, the Choyero way of the people who once settled this land, and the Los Cabos way, often with parades, traditional dancing and lots of resplendent adornment.

Whether there is a festival to join, a holiday to celebrate or simply a fun vacation to be had there is plenty to do in Los Cabos. Build your own package around a colorful festival and add in an array of only-in-Cabo activities.

Consider a day trip to Todos Santos any time of year. The magical art town takes you back to a simpler time with cobbled streets, original colonial-style architecture and plenty of creative notion and art shops to browse.

World-Class Diving

Arrange a tour to track whales, swim with sea lions and otherwise indulge in some incredible diving and snorkeling at Cabo Pulmo National Park. This is where the Sea of Cortez, considered the “aquarium of the world,” edges up to the Pacific Ocean in calm waters that all but guarantee some wowing marine experiences.

Hike to a desert oasis tucked away at the base of the Sierra Laguna mountains. You may not see the crowds there, but you will see a 25-foot cascading waterfall and you will be able to swim at its base in a deep blue natural pool. The Sol de Mayo waterfall lies just beyond the sleepy Mexican village of Santiago, inland between La Paz and San Jose Del Cabo. In addition to the verdant vegetation and beckoning pools you will also find several mineral hot springs in this area where you can relax in what feels like an undiscovered Eden but within easy access of Los Cabos.

Los Cabos Dining: A Local Treasure

However you spend your day, make time for the dining to be done in Los Cabos, from the freshest fish tacos on the beach to the finest multi-course degustation with wine pairings. UNESCO’s List for Intangible Cultural Heritage honors Los Cabos gastronomy as part of Mexico’s culinary wealth and those arts are showcased through some of the finest chefs in Mexico who have set up flagship kitchens at the bottom of the Baja.

Dinner with a view

Consider an intimate cooking class after a hands-on market tour in Los Cabos and make dishes that have been handed down in family recipes for generations. Or indulge in a mixology class to learn about the right tequilas and mezcals, spices and add-ins that can make a margarita pop. Take a farm-to-table taco tutorial and immerse in the lore of the incredible Mexican Nopal.

Whatever the celebration, festive moment or driving interest that brings you to Los Cabos for your dream vacation, you will return with new knowledge and friends. Bond with colleagues at an amazing music concert or share shaggy dog stories on a hike along haunting desert trails. Your experiences will be remembered and serve to pull you through less exciting times. And when you are ready for more, Los Cabos will be there with more festivals, more adventure and so much more to choose.
