The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has announced that MICE arrivals to the city surged 22.8% year-on-year in 2010. The 1.43 million overnight MICE visitors also represent a 22.5% increase over the number achieved in 2008, before the global financial crisis. Out of the 2010 total, 41.8% came from mainland China, 35.4% more than 2009, but significant gains were recorded in every source market. MICE visitors from South and Southeast Asia climbed 24.6%, contributing to an overall 17.8% rise in visitors from short-haul markets. Visitors from long-haul markets increased 12.6%. HKTB Chairman, James Tien, confirmed that the city had already confirmed 315 conventions and exhibitions for 2011.
