A Korean tourism official has advised Indonesian authorities to focus efforts on MICE infrastructure to spearhead wider tourism development. Korea is the third largest MICE destination in Asia and this sector is a major contributor to the country’s tourism status. Without extensive natural resources, the government has actively prompted the sector as a vehicle of tourism growth. Korean Tourism Organisation (KTO) Jakarta Director, Jong Sool Kwon, told the Jakarta Post that the Indonesian capital should do the same. He said that Indonesia also needed more and better airports, accommodations, transportation and tourist sights, to improve its tourism industry.
