Fourteen miles from Napa is Sonoma. It is a historic city located in the heart of the renowned Sonoma Valley winemaking region. Sonoma has small family-owned wineries producing wines that win gold medals in competitions around the world. It’s known for art galleries and the colonial-era Sonoma Plaza. Surrounding the plaza are significant 19th-century adobe buildings, including Mission San Francisco Solano and the Sonoma Barracks, once used by the Mexican military. Seasonally, the square hosts a famous weekly farmer’s market.

San Francisco is 50 miles NW of Napa and offers a multitude of activities. San Francisco has a personality as large and bold as the Golden Gate Bridge.  That personality changes from neighborhood to neighborhood, so one needs to consider visiting the tea rooms and mah jong parlors of Chinatown, the hippie chic of Haight-Ashbury, and the fun of Ghirardelli Square. San Francisco is also home to the most dynamic food scenes ranging from the humble Mission District burrito joints to the Michelin-starred dining rooms. When your legs can’t go a step farther, hitch a ride on a cable car and take in those hilltop views. Or take a Bay Tour to the Golden Gate Bridge.  Alcatraz is a popular tourist destination, but make sure you call in advance to reserve tickets.
